You have till November 11 to apologise to Samira Bawumia – NMC warns Power FM :The National Media Commission (NMC) has demanded an apology from the management of Authentic Media Company Limited, the company that runs Power FM, to Samira Bawumia, the wife of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“You permitted your station, Power FM, to be utilized as a platform for a gender-based slander against H.E. Hajia Samira Bawumia on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. This perverted and debased broadcast also aimed to instigate ethnic strife and disparage the whole Fulani Community in Ghana. Such behavior has no place in our pursuit of national unity, peace, and prosperity, the NMC stated in a letter signed by its Executive Secretary, George Sarpong, and addressed to the media outlet’s CEO.
“Your presenter’s phoney protestation was unprofessional and deceptively calculated to egg the commentator on,” the NMC noted. Your presentation shifted from being a moderator to an advocate for vulgarity.
We kindly request your apology to the Fulani Community and H.E. Hajia Samira Bawumia. The NMC emphasized, “We also ask that you extend your apology to the Ghanaian people whose sensibilities you offended with that broadcast.”
“Present evidence of same to the Commission before November 11, 2023, after which date you may hear further from the Commission,” is what the NMC is requesting of the media firm.
