Vice President of IMANI Africa Bright Simons seems to have agreed with former President John Dramani Mahama when he said that the current administration is to blame for an upsurge in examination malpractices in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

A segment of the public, particularly supporters of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, harshly criticized Mahama, the leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), for raising doubts about the validity of the 2023 WASSCE results, allegedly because of the large number of passes that were recorded.

Mahama warned of possible repercussions for the nation’s educational system after claiming to have seen instances of inadequate monitoring and teacher participation in student cheating.

“Children are frequently allowed to cheat. Wherever you go, there are teachers who are plotting with the pupils to steal. Later on, the impact will be seen,” Mahama stated.

Now, Bright Simons has offered some data to demonstrate that, in fact, exam misconduct has gone up under the current administration.
