Chief of Staff: “We will minimize the suffering as soon as possible” in response to the Akosombo Dam spill. Akosua Frema Opare-Osei, Ghana’s Chief of Staff, has stated that the government of Ghana is determined to protect the welfare and well-being of those impacted by the Akosombo Dam disaster.

On Wednesday, November 22, 2023, the politician emphasized during a news conference in Accra that the Akufo-Addo administration will exert all of its resources to alleviate the severity of their suffering.

“With the help of government agencies and other well-meaning partners, we are confident that we can minimize or reduce the suffering in the shortest amount of time,” the speaker stated.

Frema Osei-Opare promised during her speech that the government will pay a visit to the people affected by the floods in the country’s northern and savannah regions, which were brought on by excessive rains.

In addition to the VRA spill, the severe rains had a negative impact on a large number of Ghanaians. Additionally, Oti, Savannah, and the Northern Region have all been discussed. We must also consider the residents of those places.

“As you witnessed the ministerial committee do to the people of Mepe and subsequently to Buipe, we will shortly be visiting other impacted regions. We’ll be working in other locations to inform the public about other areas that are impacted, what the government is doing, and what each and every one of us as citizens can do,” she continued.

In the wake of the Akosombo Dam’s overflowing water, which caused some villages in the Volta Region to flood recently, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo established an interministerial committee to oversee the government’s reaction to the victims.

It is anticipated that the committee will collaborate in order to evaluate the circumstances, determine which needs are most urgent, and put plans in place to lessen the negative effects of the flooding on the impacted residents.
