Novak Djokovic tied Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles with a straight-sets victory over Daniil Medvedev in the final of the 2023 US Open on Sunday.

Djokovic, the world No. 1, won 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in a match that was more closely contested than the straight-set score indicated. The Serbian star was in control for most of the match, but Medvedev made things interesting by fighting back from a break down in both the second and third sets.

Djokovic, who was playing in his 36th Grand Slam final, was able to maintain his composure in the crucial moments and close out the victory. He won 80% of his first-serve points and saved all six of the break points he faced.

This is Djokovic’s fourth US Open title and his 24th Grand Slam singles title overall. He is now one major title ahead of Rafael Nadal and two ahead of Roger Federer in the all-time Grand Slam standings.

Djokovic’s victory was a monumental achievement and cements his status as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. He has now won all four Grand Slams twice and is the only man to do so in the Open era.

Djokovic’s victory was also a triumph over adversity. He was unable to compete at the US Open last year due to his vaccination status, and he was booed by some fans at Arthur Ashe Stadium during the final. However, he showed his resilience and determination by winning the title in convincing fashion.
