The poet and activist Amanda S. C. Gorman was born in the United States on March 7, 1998.

Bio of Amanda Gorman
In her work, she discusses issues including racism, feminism, oppression, marginalization, and the African diaspora. As the first National Youth Poet Laureate, Gorman created history.

She released her poetry collection titled “The One for Whom Food Is Not Enough” in 2015. She authored and read her poetry “The Hill We Climb” at President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021, which catapulted her to international stardom. Two of her novels became bestsellers as a result of the poem’s widespread recognition, which also helped her land a management deal.

Gorman was profiled by Lin-Manuel Miranda for Time magazine’s “100 Next” list in the “Phenoms” section. She recited her poem “Chorus of the Captains” at Super Bowl LV, making history by becoming the first poet to perform at the Super Bowl.

Despite obstacles, Gorman has succeeded. She is extremely sensitive to sound and suffers from an auditory processing problem.

She also struggled with communication during her formative years. Gorman had speech therapy and saw that she had a speech impediment as a strength, which helped her to be a successful writer and reader. She was motivated by the words of Marianne Deborah Williamson, who said, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.”

To overcome her speech impairment, Gorman used songs like “Aaron Burr, Sir” from Hamilton as speech therapy exercises.

From kindergarten through the 12th grade, Gorman attended New Roads, a private school in Santa Monica. During her senior year, she was awarded a college scholarship by the Milken Family Foundation.

Gorman majored in sociology at Harvard College and received a Phi Beta Kappa degree in 2020. Additionally, she studied for a semester in Madrid, Spain, with assistance from IES Abroad in 2019.

Gorman’s literary career began to take shape when she read Toni Morrison’s works in middle school and realized that she could see herself in fiction. She studied the poetry of black women in high school, including Phillis Wheatley and Audre Lorde, and incorporated these themes into her own work to address intersectional feminism and social justice issues.

Gorman, who takes her cues from role models like Maya Angelou, the Duchess of Sussex, and Michelle Obama, finds a relationship between poetry and fashion. She thinks that fashion gives text a visual aesthetic, allowing her to dress in ways that express who she is as a poet.

In her home city of Los Angeles, Amanda Gorman belongs to the Black Catholic church of St. Brigid Catholic Church. She praised James Corden during an appearance on The Late Late Show after President Biden’s inauguration and referred to him as her favorite person.[86] Gorman is referred to as a “powerhouse” by Michael Cirelli, the executive director of Urban Word NYC, who also jokes that her biography requires regular updates owing to her ongoing accomplishments. According to a story from 2014, Gorman wanted to work for human rights.
