Kasoa, Central Region

A devastating fire broke out at the Kasoa New Market earlier today, destroying several shops and prompting a large-scale emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Firefighters from the Kasoa and Weija stations were the first on the scene, with reinforcements quickly arriving from across the Greater Accra Region. Reports indicate that nearly 10 fire tenders were deployed, including units from Legon, Madina, Dansoman, and even the Flagstaff House (Jubilee House). All available fire pumps from Accra were also mobilised to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent structures.
Eyewitness accounts and social media videos circulating online show thick smoke billowing from the market as flames rapidly consumed sections of the bustling commercial hub. Firefighting operations were ongoing into the evening, with personnel working tirelessly to bring the situation under control.
No casualties have been reported so far, though the full extent of the damage to shops and merchandise is still being assessed. Traders at the market, a vital economic centre in the Awutu Senya East Municipality, are feared to have suffered significant losses.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and investigations are expected to commence once the blaze is fully extinguished.
This incident marks another tragic fire outbreak in a Ghanaian market, raising renewed concerns about fire safety measures in crowded trading areas. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols.
Updates will follow as more details emerge.
